Cranberry Chicken

So I was on one of your blogs and looked at a recipe link but now I don't know which one. It was a recipe for cranberry chicken or something like that. So now I am wondering if anyone has a recipe for this?

BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT EVER!!! I feel bad for them but am EVER so grateful we have him in our lives...it's a bitter sweet feeling. Anyway, just wanted to let ya'll know!!! I also have a question to ask....we're thinking that we're going to change his name but I can't seem to find a name that really strikes me....any suggestion on names?

WELLLLLLLL, WHAT DO YOU KNOW...

Hey ya'll....yep, it's Duzz here. It's sure nice to finally be on here but I'm not very good at keeping up with these blog things but I'll do what I can. Thanks Daisy for sharing the photos of Damon!!! Ok, so this is our cute little foster boy Damon! We absolutely LOVE him to pieces. He's been in our home since Sept. 6 & things are looking more in our favor to be able to adopt him....HOWEVER, you can never be too sure with the State because they can change at the drop of a hat. Damon's caseworker has told me she's about 95% sure that we'll get the opportunity to adopt him & I'm praying we do. He seriously is the love of my life! The story behind Damon...I can't share a whole lot & also for Damon's sake, I think I'd prefer to keep alot of it private. I will tell you though, he's been through too much for a 2yr old (just turned 2 on 10/31). He came into the system about March (I believe) and was malnourished. When they (the State) asked us to take Damon in, they warned us that he had 'Attachment Disorder' and that we would be his technically his 4th foster home....the other foster parents struggled with him. Usually, when we were asked to take kids in, I insisted on looking at their files & thinking about it for a few days. When we were called about Damon, I absolutely knew 100% that we just needed to hurry & get him. I didn't have a whole lot of knowledge of his background or anything else but I felt an urgency to go get him. When it all happened, I ended up going on a Saturday to pick him up by myself. The other foster Mom expressed to me how she had so much animosity towards this little guy & how they haven't seen eye to eye from day 1. She told me he couldn't even talk at all & wanted to demonstrate for me...she picked him up & said, "Say Olive." He actually tried to say it & inside I was laughing. I thought it was so cute that he even tried. I mean, seriously...OLIVE? Anyway, the more I talked to her the more urgent I felt to get him in my car. When I asked about his routine...because I didn't want to mix the poor kid up anymore than he already probably felt...I asked what time he went to bed, took naps & if milk was given to him prior to either. She laughed & said, "Why would I give him milk? I don't like it, I don't feed it to my kids, why would I give it to him?" That's when I politely excused us & told her I didn't want to make her late for her meeting. I took Damon what was supposed to be for the weekend & it turned in to being permanent...well, so far. I told Jeff that Sunday night that I couldn't take him back to someone who didn't love him. I called the next day & asked the State if we could just bypass their process for relocating a child into a new home & expressed my concerns as well as my support if we couldn't bypass. Yet again, I was given many words of advice concerning his so called mis-behaviors & how he was probably just in his 'honeymoon stages' of coming into our home. Again, I felt differently & knew within my heart that we just needed to follow the spirit & do what we could. It didn't phase me what they were telling me...good to keep in the back of the mind but I'll tell you, that's where it's stayed too. Damon is so blasted cute. He cracks me up left & right. We laugh lots & lots & lots! We are constantly learning new words & funny things to do...he mimics my Dad's walk to a T...it's the cutest thing ever!!! Anyway, that's the jist of how he came into our home & a few of the so called problems that this little guy has. I've yet to see his 'Attachment Disorder'...anyone who meets him is surprised that they say he has one. For those of you who are wondering what that means....supposedly in a nutshell, he won't allow himself to attach to people or to get close to him. Alot of it is caused from being moved from house to house to house. There's more to it than that but you can look it up if you're interested...it's proper term is R.A.D. but I'll be honest I've only seen MAYBE 1 or 2 signs of it but they've quickly vanished. For a child Damon's age, they usually give the parents 8 months to sort their problems out & then the judge can determine...based off of the parents progress..he/she can extend the time to 12 months & if things keep going well, they can push it 3 more months but that's it. Damon's 8 months is up in December & last week we just went to a review hearing for him....he doesn't go, just us. Anyway, it doesn't look like the parents are doing too well with what they've been given to do & many of the things they have to do, take ALOT longer than 4 weeks...which is when the Permanency Hearing is for Damon's case. We go back to court on 12/1 to hear the judges decision & after last week's meeting for Damon's case....I think his biological Mom is going to sign the rights over....atleast that's what she told me. However, I think the State is still going to push to have the rights terminated. I don't know what's going to happen though....so keep us in your prayers. Just to show you how weird his biological parents are...I asked them the other day where his name came from, only because I had already heard but I wanted to know from them directly. They said (as they were laughing), "We were watching the Omen (is that the correct spelling?) a few weeks before I gave birth & we decided to name him after the child in that show." I told them that was sick & wrong...they thought it was funny. She proceeded to tell me how they induced her (which I also wonder if they requested to be induced on the 31st but she said it wasn't..they're strange though) that when Damon was born, the birth Father made them turn his head around to ensure he didn't have 666 on his forehead. I just looked at her & said, "You've got to be kidding me....he's anything but a devil child...he's the sweetest kid. I can't believe you guys did that to him, that's really sad." They gave him a middle name from the bible....I said, "You mean to tell me you named him a devilish name because he was born on Halloween & because of that show & then you gave him a biblical name, what's wrong with you guys?" Yeah, needless to say, we'll be changing his name if we get to adopt him. That's just the mentality we're dealing with. Anyway, I didn't mean for this to be a novel...like I said before, there's soooooo much to this little guys story but I've only shared a wee bit. Damon is honestly such a crack up....he knows how to say his prayers at night & at meals. In fact, if Jeff is helping him eat & I'm not at the table yet he yells, "Mommmmm, pwyers...Mom, pwyers." and there he is with his arms folded & his eyes squinting just enough so he can still see out of them. He LOVES to sneak up on us & say "BOO!" funniest thing ever! He says "pwease" & "dank you" to everyone whenever he wants something or they help him. He is a HUGE blessing to us & like Daisy said about Heavenly Father...he definitely has helped us come together. I've come to better understand Christlike love & devotion through the eyes of our 2 yr. old & through the things that have gone on around him. There is no greater teacher than that of a child. We're so blessed!!!! Maybe one of these days I'll figure out how to put video clips on here & give you a demo of the 'great' things I'm teaching him....like being a monkey on the bunk bed & how to climb in & out of his crib! FUNNY! I love you all! Thanks for taking the time to read this, if you did...& if you didn't, then why are you reading this part? JUST KIDDING! I love you all & think of you OFTEN!!! Have a wonderful day & I'll try to keep you posted with things!!! Thanks for getting me signed on here!!!
Love ya,
Duzz

Will someone please make Duzz a contributor!!!

I just found out that she has a little guy living with her and I had no idea and she said she still is not a contributor or she would have told us all!! So I am sharing the pictures of her cute little Damon but really I feel like she should be the one sharing this awesome news! So to get more details you are going to have to make her a contributor! If you need her email let me know and I will email it to you. Isn't he so stickin' cute?!! He totally looks like their kid! Heavenly Father sure knows what he is doin' up there!

what should I do?

Ok so I need some help. My SIL moved home with her 2db. I am having a hard time with it because she needs constent babying even before this. My MIL house is a mess and she doesn't do anything but sit there. I don't have sympathy for her and her marriage problems and I don't even want to be in the same room with her. She and I had a long talk about all of this a while ago and she doesn't find any fault in her own actions only her husbands. I know this is a lot of info but I don't have anywhere else to turn to. Have any of you had to deal with something like this? What should I do? She and I have struggled since I have been married and sometimes I wonder if I can be in the same room with her this is just making things worse. When I have been there she acts like nothing is wrong and yesterday she asked if I was ok because I looked more stressed than usually. It was all I could do not to just lay it all out right then. Please any advise?

what a mean mom

Funny story- Today I had a big task at hand, to clean the carpets in my house. I did it, thank you, thank you! But it took quite a while because I had to do it all carrying Porter. If I didn't hold him, he started to totally wig. I have never heard him wail so loud, since he has been born. And of course, all I could do was laugh. Am I such a mean mom? Oh well. It was just funny. Thought I would share. You guys have other things your kids get scared of-and you laugh?

Oh, and I just had Morgan tell me that she wished I was never her mom, because I won't let her have another piece of candy. Oh, and yesterday she told us that we were the worst parents in the world because we were making her eat one bite of a pear. Boy, if only she knew what good parents were really were!

Scenery?

Ok all you Utah people. I have been gone for 4 years and I guess I wasn't really paying attention before then. My aunt is in town and taking pictures for me, sorry guys but she's free. (Just know that I still love and am amazed by all you photographers talents!)
Any way I'm supposed to pick where we are going today and I don't have any idea? So my questions is where do you girls like to go to get pictures taken of your kids or to take pictures of people's kids? I'm talking outside here. Any comments would be much appreciated!

a fun saturday night!!

I thought I would share a little fun I had the last saturday night. Tachi and I both are Tooelen's now. We got together and had a good time chatting it up and eating some good grub on their new bbq. Tachi's little guy, Hayden, is so adorable. He is 11 months and she swears that he started walking more while my kids were around him on saturday. Hes a fast learner for sure!! I actually got to babysit him awhile ago and that was a fun time for Mayley. I loved when Tachi said "You can tell who is and who isn't from Tooele when you go to church!" and I said AMEN sista! It's pretty funny place to live but both of our houses are fun to live in and I guess thats what counts for now. I'm just glad that for Oakcrest friends!! You ladies are some of my favorite friends and I wish we could do more together!! Tachi is doing wonderful and she is so happy!! Yay for Oakcrest friends! I love all of you tons! :)

Pre K

Ok so my next question is about preK. L has been accepted to our local schools program even though she is only 3 (not enough 4 year olds). I am having mixed emotions because:
1- she is my baby
2- it is 1/2 day 12 to 3 right in the middle of the day and she still naps.
3- It is a huge time commitment

How do you all feel about pre k?
Does it make me a bad mom that I want her to go?
Do you think she will learn anything?

Gardens

For those of you who garden I just wanted to know how things are going?
Mine is OK.
We have had a million green beans.
Almost lost our Zucchini but killed off the bugs.
The tomatoes are just starting to set on which is fun.
The peppers are there but they are small, but still they are there.
I have been canning pickles and beans and will start on tomato product soon.
Does anyone have a good relish recipe?
I miss everyone posting. Things must be busy for all.

RS Instructor

Ok, So I was just called as a RS instructor! This is one of the callings that scare me half to death! I even contemplating saying no. But decided I would be cursed if I did! However I am so scared! They asked me to substitute once a few months ago, and I did an AWFUL job. Now, most people think that I am being modest. No I am not, I am not exaggerating either. It was so bad. With 20 minutes left, I basically was finished with my lesson. During the lesson, some lady mentioned that I was doing a good job for my first time. (that shows how bad it was-During the lesson!) So, if you don't understand yet, This calling is one of the worst callings for me-the only one worse would be Gospel Doctrine teacher. But I would like some help from you guys, who I am sure have al taught wonderful lessons. How do I not get so scared in front of them? Teaching the youth-I can teach like the best of them. Primary-a cinch. During my lesson, I honestly did not feel that the ladies where getting anything from the lesson. So I honestly felt that I would not be called into this, becauseI know that I will learn-but it has to benefit other people as well. Anyways-suggestions?

Cloth diapering

Ok so don't laugh but I am trying this out with norah. With the cost of everything rising and two girls in diapers (lily still sleeps with them on) I have decided that this would be a good thing do experiment with. I bought the diapering stuff for $80 and I am trying it out. So far so good. Today was my first day of just cloth, I put her to bed with a disposible on though because night time diapering is a hard thing to master and I am not that into it. I am just wondering if any of you have/thought of doing this with your children?

Tink update

Here's a little update on the Tink Call family. Mike and I have now been married for 6 1/2 years. Maggie is 4 and Chadley Lynn is 16 months.
We were in Connecticut for Mike's art school. We loved it there. It was beautiful and Leko even came to visit!
But we just moved from Connecticut to Bountiful, UT in May. Mike was done with school and I still have a lot of school left so we decided to be by family to get some help with the girls. We love our house. We have a great landlord and our own yard hooray!
Mike is working for a window company putting in high end windows. So he gets to go to the church office building and all over the northern part of the state. The owner is LDS, so it's a pretty good work environment. We are so grateful for this opportunity. It also allows him to work a little bit on his art at night. If you want to see his boyscout slides or other sculpture check out www.mikecallfineart.com
I am getting my degree in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I have been stuck at my computer for the past two months trying to get caught up with school, so that's why it has taken me so long to write. But I'm doing a lot better now and I have also updated my blog. If you need an invite leave your email or email me at brookehv@gmail.com. I know it's a pain, and I'm thinking of going public, but for now it's private so you need an invitation to view it.
I had such fun seeing some of you at the Oakcrest Reunion. It was so great to be able to be there for it. I love you and miss you guys.

Balboa and baby #2

Well, I was reading on Balboa's blog today and she had her 2nd little baby boy on July 30. His name is Tage and he's a cutie! And if you ask me, she looks way too good to have just had a baby!

CONGRATS BALBOA and good luck with the two little guys!

oops

Sorry, everyone. I was not actually trying to put that on the Oakcrest blog, but on my own personal one. Hope you all like the vampire books too!

Who's Excited?

Only two days left of waiting! I feel silly, but I'm way excited. Not to the point of going to the all night party with my teenage cousin, though. I did ask Trav if he would take the kids all day Saturday so I could read, but he didn't think that was a great plan. Something about family togetherness time. Whatever.
And, in case you didn't know, the Twilight movie comes out in December. On my birthday, which is probably the only way I'd ever talk T into going to see it with me.

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Hey there missy!

I had a way fun Oakcrest dream last night. We all got invited up for the week to be counselors, but then no campers came, but we had a blast anyway. When I woke up though I just kept thinking how exhausting it sounds to be a counselor. Am I getting old or what? I don't think I could do it again, this is the first time I have felt like that. Maybe it's cuz I'm pregnant, but watching those girls at the reunion, whew, I just don't have it in me anymore. I am glad I did it then though :)

Oakcrest reunion

I know that I am slow, but I was out of town until this past week. But I want you all to know how much I love you, and am so glad that we were able to spend that one summer together. It still affects me. Sure do love you all! I had a great time at the reunion-and even lil' boy blue had a good time as well. It brought back so many memories! Here are some pics...

Note from random camper

At the reunion, they gave out notes for us to read from random campers and I loved the one I got!

Dear Oakcrest Staff,

I don't know who you are, or what you've done, all I know is you have done it. Because of you, Oakcrest has been going for 50 years. 50 years of laughs, 50 years of joys and 50 years of memories. Thanks to you I'm able to be here! It's my 2nd day, but I'm already having so much fun! All of this, the zipline to the testimonies, it's all full of cherishable memories! Not only that, but think of all the sotires we can tell to our kids and grandkids. My mom told me of her experience. Think of all the testimonies you've helped to be gained, and not to mention the spiritual lives you've saved. You are doing God's work, and I know he's proud of you. Thanks a bunch!

Love, an Oakcrest camper

And this is my Sister Tracie, she took this on my camera when I got home and obviously wanted to be included in the post.

Isn't is incredible? There's my cute dad and I bet you all didn't even know it was his birthday yesterday! He's only 2 years older than Oakcrest!
This is my camper Brittany who was also a counselor, "Tetris" a couple years ago. Vanilla and CricketAren't Oakcrest sunsets the best? There were a few people there that I didn't get pictures of. Like Buttons, Maverick, Chicky Boomba, Roxy, Fiddle, Sunshine, Nike, Polka Dot, Smiles, Sunbeam, and Xanadu. And Grams was also there. It was good to see her, but it was sad that Gramps has passed away and wasn't there with her.

And I thought I was against blog stalking....

I am so glad that Flipper is a blog stalker! It is so much fun to "see" you all again! I'm sure some of you already know what Kenneth and I are up to from our blog - but for those of you who don't - here is a little update. (This is Sparks, by the way....)

The Last time I saw most of you was at my mission farewell.. (I can't believe it's been that long!) The mission was great. Venezuela is crazy. Kenneth waited for me while I was gone and we were married within 2 1/2 months of me coming home (kids, don't try that at home). It has now been almost 5 years and we are happy and healthy and living in Boston :)

Kenneth is currently getting his PhD at Boston University. We have been here for 2 years and we will probably be here for at least another 3. After that who knows. Kenneth wants to be a professor so, we're open to going wherever he finds a good program. We hope to eventually end up somewhere in the West. We love Boston, but flight prices are killing us. It would be nice to live somewhere within driving distance of our families.

I am working as a nanny for 2 totally cute, but very dramatic and energetic girls. I have also been working on my certification to be a Doula and Childbirth Educator and at some point would like to stop being a nanny and start doing that full time. It is a hard transition to make - living in Boston can get pretty expensive. Our plan is for me to make the switch sometime next year. I am already attending a few births here and there and I teach private hypnobirthing and natural childbirth classes. Here is a picture of the first family whose birth I attended:

We don't have kids yet, but that is also something we are going to look into next year. Of course I have been saying that for 4 years now, but I think 2009 is our year :) Be prepared for a baby shower invitation sometime next fall.

Boston is amazing by the way, and we are always looking for friends to visit us! So, feel free to start planning your trip to the east coast now. We'll be here for 3 more years and our apartment is open to all!

Here is a picture of our apartment:

And some picture of Boston - Are you convinced that you should come visit?

I hope you are all doing well!!! I can't wait to hear more from all of you:)

Hello out there

So, who's coming this Friday night?

Can't wait to see y'all!!!

TReated differently?

Hi ladies so I have a question. Do you ever feel like your chidlren' grandparents treat them each differently? The reason I ask this is. Today we were eating lunch at my inlaws house and my sister in law and her family are down. Lily and her son are the same age (3), which to me is a hard age especially for sharing. The two of them were playing with toys in the other room, which means that no really saw who was in the wrong. Anyways the BOY cam out say lily took the truck (mind you lily does take things but so does the boy she just doesn't always come and tell). Anyways my father in law went out there and was so short with her about this truck and then he started to get angry, at this point I said they should try and work it out on there own.

Anyways he became angry and left. I feel like he always is on lily's case and never on the boys. I feel like the only reason we are staying here is so our children can be around grandparents but they never want to be around us. My mother in law is keeping the boy for a few day Lily has only stayed at their house one time. Lee and I haven't had a date in almost 3 months and even then we had to bring the baby. I am jsut feeling like nobody cares that we are here making no money so our kids can be by family that doesn't even want them around. Any advice?
